Gone in 39 Minutes

Beijing Olympic 2008 Badminton Silver MedalThat’s how long it took China’s Lin Dan to snatch the Beijing Olympic 2008 Gold medal from Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei. I was not disappointed with his failure to get the gold but I was a bit dismayed to see that there was hardly a fight back from him.

He looked very tired and lost… Nevertheless, he had got something for Malaysia and that still matters…

In defeat, no one should fault him. He tried and everyone loves a winner. But in defeat, it is time for all Malaysians to consider something – Chong Wei made sacrifices, trained and endured a lot of pain to make it to Beijing. These should override the gold medal factor.

To the self-appointed critics and analysts, leave him alone. He never clamed his invincibility. He never was seeded number one – Lin Dan was the top seed. He never promised the gold. He gave his best and ended up with silver, not for want of trying. Simply put, it was not his day. – Sun2Surf

in my opinion, there are too much stress added on him, plus on that day, all the people around yelling lin dan’s name, sure got a lot of pressure, plus the RM1m… pressure from the government.

I agree Bear, I have watched the olympics from day 1, loved the pure joy and effort of all…..the UK and US have a small emnity cos the US are usually so bloody good, and when a young US gymnast fell off the beam last week when she started her discipline I laughed…..until I thought (hey, she has spent her life trying to be the best…..if you could even leap as high as the beam you’d be lucky Brookes you twat!)….they provide us with pleasure and bless them all Bear!

I think when he got 1st point in st game, he shouted in front of the Li Dan face makes Li Dan angry. His playing also teribble. But, as we malasian, we have to support him anyway, he did his best but luck is not on our side.
