Even though more than 60% of visitors visting this blog is using Firefox, the worlwide usage share of web browsers still shows that Internet Explorer (IE) si still the top web browser in the world.

If you look at the chart on the left, IE still holds a big 72.22% usage leaving the others way behind. Why?

Technically, I would not be able to answer you as I am using Firefox as my main web browser while IE and Chrome are used only for making sure that this blog has no problem on the other two.

Personally, I would be able to give my opinion as to why IE is still very popular out there. Firstly, most people use Microsoft Windows instead of Mac or Linux. The fact that Windows is more user friendly to the common people, makes it almost the default OS for most computers.

Therefore, IE comes installed with Windows and it is ready to use with some minor settings required. Some of the computer vendors would even do it for their customers without any extra charge. All the user needs to do is click IE and they are connected to the internet.

Secondly, this is related to the common people who bought computers above. Most of them thought that by installing another web browser, they can no longer use their IE. In fact, when I got my first computer, I had that very same idea too and therefore, I stick to IE.

Only after getting to know more about computers and internet, I leaned that a computer can run multiple web browsers at the same time since they are nothing but just like any another program that can be run on a computer. It took me a while to have the guts to install Firefox and I have never looked back since then.

In conclusion, those are the two major factors, in my opinion, that let IE be where they are right now and not because they are more superior to the other browsers. I am sure IE fanatics would shoot me down like flies when they read this. But then, I am just stating my opinion and nothing more.

To bloggers out there, do not dismiss IE if you are already using other web browsers. Make sure that you test load your blog on IE to ensure that they have no problem so that the 72%+ IE users are able to read it. If not, your blog would be skipped and that would be your loss.

IE has an annoying habit of continually becoming unresponsive due to the add ons that microsoft has enabled in order for it to be as user friendly as other browsers, ie tabbed browsing, and by attempting to include security….just my personal opinion though…..never have any such problems with firefox, opera on which I write this, or chrome, but then again I prefer to browse and use the internet competently and not spend 15 mins in each 2 hours having to stop and restart IE.

I think another cause of this is… most of office in the world use Windows, so IE is default main browser with restriction they can’t install anything as they just have to do their job.. restriction to install anything what most company do… my 2cent

i have IE and firefox only. I don’t like chrome cause google don’t like my blog. hahahaha. i was joking. i look around and most wordpress theme developer hates IE6. he he he. I don’t know why as they started talking in codes. hahaha.

maybe papa bear knows about it. If you really can explain in layman term i will worship you. hahaha. another joke from me

You nailed it — people stick with IE because their computers come with IE already installed. That’s good enough for most people — you’ve got a browser that renders the Internet just fine, so why switch?

How many people are really interested enough to go find an alternative when what they have usually works just fine? Obviously, not a whole lot.

Some cool stats! I just checked mine and the results are:
Firefox is my first choice and also for 70,68% visitors of BioTecK.net!
Only 21,58% of my visitors use IE…A message to the 21,53% who uses IE..Switch today!

It really annoys me when I build a website and it works on all 3 of the major browsers only for one addition to make it stop working in IE. even more annoying is not noticing for 2 weeks while 48% of my visitors can’t see the bloody images!

CNET, Techrunch aor whatever developer site already declare IE5.5 and IE6 are the worst software even build.. anyway, do u think Microsoft never know that?, actually IE is not Microsoft personally browser, but microsoft have an agrrement with IE developer company to keep working with their OS, thats why, they still cannot eliminate IE which bring bad name to Microsoft ( i read this story at quite some of blog/forum).. anyway after IE7 and IE8 having very progessive development , now it quite look better (but FF is much2 better)

I hate IE!! Haha.. Seriously. I only use Firefox or Opera to browse. IE is slow while I usually open more than 20s tab at once. Huhu.. The addons in IE also quite heavy to load and easily crash. I am not sure whether it’s me the only one who experience this kind of problem though

iEn pengguna firefox. Tapi IE masih gunakan jugark sebagai backup. Sebab kadang2 bila ien bikin template blogger, ien check sama view by IE nye cemana, kalau xsama paparannya, ien check balek code2 yg menyebabkan template rosak dan xsama kedua2 browser. Pendek kata, IE still the best!

kujie, IE is still winning by virtue of default installation but the share is getting smaller and smaller as people are more aware of the options that they have.

Papa.. i ve never looked back ever since i ve used Mozilla – fast, light and easy too. Though window still has the large portion of the market, i think most people are not aware about Mozilla – its awesome features i mean. Thus, explaining why IE has a bigger share. I ve come across lots of people in my office who still use IE. They just regard IE as a web browser that does the job, not knowing the true features Mozilla.

I ve seem some bloggers too still using IE. And when asked, why not Mozilla – they simply say “Apa tuu? tak perr yang ni pun okay.. janji dah boleh surf net..” So, i just “hmmmmmm…”

p/s : speaking of luv links, i will quickly link you back since RPB is down at the moment. SO, in the meantime, i guess i have to hop hop hop hippity hop the traditional way to your blog.

I have a similar opinion to what you have expressed in your post. But, Microsoft should stop it’s IE6 and ask it’s users to upgrade to IE7 so that bloggers like us use IE!!!

Yeah, true enough. I think most people just don’t ponder to change their deafult internet browser. There is not slightest chance for someone to buy an XP with FF browser integrated. It’s meaningless lol.
