Reward for Your Comment

1st commenter It is a great honor for a blogger to have visitors to his or her blog and it is an even greater honor if the visitors left some comments after reading the posts. However, many visitors would just come and go and only a few would really read and comment.

Due to that, I have been looking around the blogsphere for ways to reward people who took the trouble to read and leave comments. I have seen many ways from different bloggers but I am impressed with they way Bonoriau rewards his first commenter. He would put up your banner on the spot dedicated to the first commenter.

So, based on that, I looked around for a nice spot to put a 125 x 125 banner on this blog. I needed a spot that provide good visibility to others who read and comment on this blog and I found one. The spot is right below the shoutbox and next to the Google Adsense ads and right above the Entrecard drop box. I could not have any better space to give away at this time.

So, my visitors, from now on you are going to be rewarded for your comment. The first commenter to the latest post will get his or her banner (125 x 125) displayed on this blog for FREE! You may put your own ads or whatever you want there for as long as there is no bad stuffs.

So, here is a short FAQ on how this reward works.

Do I need to have my own 125 x 125 banner to get the reward?

No. If you are a member of Entrecard, I will use your Entrecard banner for that spot. If you are not an Entrecard member, you can include the link to your 125 x 125 banner in your comment and I will put that up. If you are an Entrecard member but wish to use a different banner you may also include the link to your other banner in your comment. If you do not have or do any of the above, I will take a thumbnail shot of your blog and put it on the spot.

How long will it take for my banner to appear?

I can’t promise you the time. I am doing this manually in order to avoid spammers. My time is GMT +8. If I received your comment and I am still on my blog, you banner would be up within a short time. If I am already asleep when you put in your comment, it would take a longer time for your banner to be up. So, try to comment when the post is still hot.

How long will my banner be displayed?

For as long as there is no new entry posted on this blog. The total time displayed would be between the time I put your banner up and the time I posted a new post. For your information, I normally update my blog with a new post on daily basis. Sometimes, during weekends, I do not post and you may get a longer time for your banner.

Is there any catch to this reward?

None! This is free and you will not be asked to do anything. All you need to do is be the first commenter.

I am seeing such method being employed by few bloggers now. In fact, i have started applying it to my blog as well..

It is a way of saying that each and every comment is appreciated, be it related or unrelated.. or by simply means of just a “hi”

i agree with restnrileks. if the first commenter just says hi, great post or something like that, it doesn’t reflect the purpose of the comment itself. so it’s useless to take that commentor and put it in your entrecard post.

life4hire, firstly, you read restnrileks’s comment wrongly. Read what he said carefully: “It is a way of saying that each and every comment is appreciated, be it related or unrelated.. or by simply means of just a “hi””. So, even if you are the first one and you just said “hi!”, you are going to fill up that spot.

Secondly, it is not an entrecard post but just a private spot and has got nothing to do with entrecard except that if you are an entrecard user, I will simply use your entrecard banner.

Honestly I don’t care….ok for me even if people only said great, hi or hello. Every comment is important. Simple comment always start@ 1st step to GREAT relationship. I’m also don’t mind if the comment not related to my posting especially my regular reader@visitor@friends.

life4hire, no worries… sometimes after a long day staring at the screen, in your case, screens, we get things mixed up. haha.
bonoriau, you are right, I will accept any comment too and that’s why I do not put any rules on how you should comment up in the post as I welcome all comments except for any obvious spam… and you are most welcome about the link.
tnh, only the FIRST commenter will get that spot and that is updated only after each post. So, to update one spot is really no big deal.

Sounds like a great idea, Shaxx. I’ve been using the “top commenter” widget to reward my commenter, but of course not everyone benefits from that method.

This is a pretty good idea. I may do something similar. I have a weekly contest and I list the winner for a week, but I like the idea of an icon or banner better. I have to see if my limited abilities will allow me to do this.

the best part is, everybody will have an equal chance. And having twitter is going to be on a plus side if you aiming for this sort of thing. Though, , first comment may end up something like these - “chop” “moi?” “Am i first?”,(haha) but, eventually, a 2nd more related comment will follow then.

I find it interesting and fun at the same time. :)

Now, i am glad i am following you. Hehe. It seems that this 1st comment appreciation is currently among our circle of friends. Hopefully it will pick up its pace on blogsphere. :)

restnrileks, that’s true. I used to “chop” at bono’s once and then only do the second comment for the actual comment… some kind of adrenalin rush moment…

I partially agree.

It kinda pisses me off when people commented without reading the entry. I rather not have any comment at all then have a misleading comment.

Top commentators as in who types in the most comment?

What if some who types HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa for 50 comments, still will make the quantity, but could never meet the quality. I prefer quality. It’s good for SEO.

While every blogger I know is adopting this, I rather not have it. Reason being, if the competition ended, no one is interested to comment. Or maybe low traffic return, they might as well forget about the idea of commenting, in short, a waste of effort.

noktahhitam, firtsly, this is not about top commenter but FIRST commenter and secondly, I have been to sites that have this, the first comment would almost always “hahahha” or something like that but the commenter would always be doing a second comment that is related to the post and that is cool! Anyway, just like durian is not for everyone even though it is regarded as the king of fruit, so is this one… Thanks, I took your 2 cents anyway…
