Android-Powered HTC Wildfire
Recently I got myself an Android-powered HTC Wildfire smartphone. Why Android? It’s just my preference over the others such as Blackberry or iPhone. Well, some people prefer chicken and some others prefer beef. Why HTC? I just like the way it feels in my hand. As solid as my old Nokia E71. Not to mention that it is good looking as well. Why Wildfire? I would love to get my hands on the Desire but as much as I have the desire to have it, the cost is way too much for me to spend on a phone. Wildfire is the most affordable HTC that runs Android and its specifications are sufficient for my needs. I don’t need a shotgun to kill a mosquito, do I?
Running on Android 2.1 Enclair, the Wildfire has been with me for about a month now and I am quite satisfied with its performance and stability. The best feature for me is the integrated address book or People. It links my contacts to their Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, that is if they are using any of those apps. Now I can have their phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays and some other infos without me having to key them in manually.
Here are my top 10 Android apps that I am currently using on the phone. If you have any suggestion on any other apps, please leave your comment.
- Foursquare – Now I can check in with ease!
- Facebook – Update my status or just see what’s the latest postings from my friends.
- Adhan Alarm – Alert on prayer times and a compass to show the direction of the Kiblat.
- CIMB Clicks – Check my bank account balance and get the latest currency exchange.
- ColorNote – An easy and simple way to take and keep notes.
- Maps – Google maps. Too bad the Google Navigation is not available for Malaysia yet…
- Waze – Turn by turn navigation. An alternative to Google Navigation and Garmin XT that I have on my E71.
- Desk Clock – Something to wake me up in the morning.
- Angry Bird – The most addictive game at the moment!
- Market – Where the apps above came from. Paid apps not available yet for Malaysia.
There you go! Did I miss any good ones up there? Do let me know okay!

thats mean with waze, we can have free gps using satelite like garmin??
papabear
Yes. It utilizes its own map that is updated by the community as well as Google Maps. So your phone must be GPS capable. Malaysian community is rather new so maps may not be that comprehensive yet but then Google Maps is always there as the backup. Just used it this evening. The location was not found on Waze map but found on Google Map and Waze used that to navigate me there.

oh, so still need money to use the gps… how about papago?? have u try it?? if i can use gps without any charge than i decided to buy htc.
papabear
I am trying to get the Papago. If u have Papago, then you just need the GPS as it works like Garmin. Papago already have the Android version. Not sure about Garmin.
amirulez
i think garmin only focus on android on garminfone. i u have the papago, please inform me and tell me how its work. btw, how much the cost of wildfire now? i/m thinking of desire or hd2 but it is too expensive..

Will do that. I bought the Wildfire under Maxis Android package. I paid about RM 500+ with 2 years contract. Market price for Wildfire is about RM 1099 the last time I checked. Desire is too expensive and HD2 runs on Windows Mobile.

In the look out for a new handphone as the current one that I’ve been using for more than 3 years has started to give signs of retiring..hehe
but your HTC sounds too complicated for me..so still have to look around n d meantime using my
faithful Sony E..
or better yet, may be it just need a new battery..and so jimat jimat..haha
cheqna´s last post ..And I thought I could
papabear
Complicated ke? Actually not complicated at all. You can use the phone as it is as the pre-installed apps are good enough. Or, you can forget the apps and just use the phone but that defeats the purpose of buying a smartphone… hehe…
cheqna
even the current one pun tak habis explore and its nearing its “use by” date..hehehe..
no worry, still have time

the thing about handphone is that new models come out rather quickly. what you bought today would be obsolete in a month’s time… anyway, take your time

iphone kire android juga ke papabear?
papabear
oh bukan. iPhone is on its own like nokia. they do not run Android OS. iPhone is using iOS by Apple while nokia is using Symbian. Other phone makers such as HTC, Motorola, Samsung, etc are open to multiple OS. Android is one of the OS used on their phones.

erm, another question. after one month u’ve been using, how’s the processor? are there lagging when open any apps?? and do u think the price is equal with the quality..
what plan did u take in maxis?? i think i would like to take this next month.
amirulez´s last post ..Finalis Anugerah Juara Lagu 25
papabear
no lagging so far. to me it is worth the money that i spent on it. i got what i needed since i do not need hd screen or high powered cpu
I took the 24 month plan + the 500GB data plan.
amirulez
500mb i think. so u pay rm58 per month rite.that for the data plan. for call and msg, are there any extra charge?? sorry for a lot of question but i want to know specifically before buying.

they give RM 10 rebate per month so it is RM 48. Call and SMS are as per the normal depending on what package that you are on such as P50 or P80. No additional charges on top of that.
amirulez
so u pay only rm48 per month..
how much u pay on the day u buy?? except for the phone.
papabear
just the price of the phone as indicated on the website. nothing else.

nyway, wildfire SEA da boleh upgrade ke froyo 2.2
papabear
have been playing angry bird for sometime now. Starting the game would be a bit slow but once loaded it is playable. once in a while it will hang due to the low powered processing power but overall we have been enjoying angry bird on the wildfire.
On the 2.2 heard about it. Do you know how to get it apart from waiting for the OTA update?
xuerie
im not sure la bro, but i got my update on the first day. did some cheating that time heheh
