Cheap Techie Gifts

Posted on the December 21st, 2010 under Gadget by Papa Bear

Read in The Malay Mail that I picked up at the Suria KLCC earlier this afternoon. It was about some cheap techie gifts for X’mas. So let’s see how cheap is cheap. After you have read this post to the end, you can ask yourself about how you would feel if you were to receive any of these “cheap” gifts.

On the left is Acer Aspire AOD255 Netbook selling at RM 1,199 based on the price from Cycom in Lowyat. Powered by 1.5GHz Intel Atom processors and equipped with 1GB RAM. This netbook can also be purchased from your nearest computer store.

On the right is Sony Playstation PS2 Slim. Brand new unit is hard to find but used units can be obtained from Lowyat.net forums, Mudah.my, Lelong.my or Ebay.com at about RM 300!

On the left is Garmin Nuvi 1250 car GPS device can be purchased at RM 520.00 from Malaysia Garmin GPS or your nearest gadget store. Why buy a made-in-China GPS device when you can have a branded one such as this?

On the right is The Blabber Meter. This is something that you should bring into your meeting since it can measure how much money is wasted by people blabbering in meetings. It will become a desk clock when no one is blabbering. The price is USD 25 or about RM 79 sold at Blabber Meter.

On the left is Western Digital – My Passport Essential portable hard disk drives or HDD. Comes with 500GB storage capacity and price of about RM 255. Can be purchased from your nearest computer shop.

On the right is the Apple iPod Shuffle. It also works with a PC if you have iTunes installed. The price is RM 179 sold at Apple retail stores.

On the left is Sony Bravia BX300 Series. A modest 22 inches LCD TV. Not easy to find the stock for this model. The price is RM 1099 and can be purchased from your nearest hypermarket or your regular electrical shops.

Last but not least, on the right is Samsung YP-U5 MP3 players. This unit not only offers entertainment but also functions to help you in your workout. The price is between RM 200 and RM 250 and can be purchased from your local gadget store.

There you go. Obviously the definition of cheap may vary from one person to another. Is there anything you like up there? I would like to get my hands on the Nuvi 1250 but for now I will just hang on the Garmin Mobile XT on our Nokia E71.
