So what can you get for a 30 minute stop at the Shah Alam bound Dengkil rest area? Read on…

I hate having to drive after lunch especially when it’s a long drive. I would get very sleepy behind the wheel and nothing could really keep me awake… Ngantuk giler! On the way back from the project EsPeeDee meeting at IPDA in PD, I only managed to drive as far as the Dengkil rest area before I started nodding a lot behind the steering. Macam cerita Noddy jadinya….

So, I pulled over…

Hand phone, sunglasses, branded watches for sale…

The first thing that happened as I parked the car, a man, who I noticed loitering at the parking area approached me and showed a Nokia phone. He was selling and I was not buying… As I looked around, there were at least another two moving around the parking lots approaching one vehicles after another…

I am sure that some of you might have been offered something by these fly-like people. I wonder if there were really anyone who would buy those things and I wonder where did those things come from in the first place… Anyway, I refused to trade with people who buzzes at parking lots… Terimakasih aje la…

Tea Time

I settled in at a kopitiam there. The name was D Toast or something… Lupa dah… I went over the menu looking for a cup of hot coffee and the waiter suggested me to try the Kluang coffee. So I did… I was not that hungry but just felt like munching something so I ordered a beef burger…

There you go. A nice clean place for a rest. A cup of black Kluang coffee. A beef burger. The food was nice and the price was… Well the coffee was a bit expensive at RM 2.20 a cup but the burger was okay at RM 2.80… Anyway, all in all, it was quite good…

Can’t you read?

Before I left, I saw a taxi parked at the disabled person parking bay. I have always thought that Malaysians have very little respect for the disabled and what I saw just affirmed it. When I look around, I saw at least another two bays reserved for the disables were taken by unthoughtful and selfish people…

What a shame…. Buta huruf kah dorang tu  eh?

Anyway, that was what I got for a 30 minute break…

Do You Want Fries With That?

That would be one of the most asked questions at some fast food restaurants but that would not be the case if you are buying something to eat at the Machap rest area. Over there, the question would be: “Do you want flies with that?”

If you are travelling between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru on the NSE, you would not miss a rest area called the Machap R&R. Last week, while driving back from Johor Bahru to Shah Alam, we had the “luxury” of stopping over for a short break at this rest area . From the car, everything looked great as the rest area was recently renovated by PLUS.

They Are Everywhere!

However, once I stepped out of the car and went to one of the stalls there, I was greeted by hundreds of flies. While the few hundred of them were doing the welcome to rest area Machap song, there were few thousands other flies were busy “promoting” the food and goods for sale to travellers… What a sight!

I went to the upper portion of the rest area. The automatic escalator was impressive and once I reached the top floor, I saw the whole eating place was sealed by glass walls. I thought that was a noble idea to ensure that the flies stay out while people are eating inside…

Let’s Do Some Maths

Well, it did not really 100% work as there were thousands of flies queueing up on the glass walls and doors waiting to enter the area. Imagine this:

1000 flies waiting to enter the eating area. If one person open the glass door to enter, and1% of the flies would take the opportunity to sneak in. There would be 10 flies per person. If 100 people went in, there would be about 1000 flies and each person that goes in must come out and that would mean at least 2000 flies in there…

They Can See You

With that, you can imagine that whatever you order in there, flies are complimentary… Not bad for a free source of protein ha! At the same time, you would get to experience a scenario that is normally common in some sci-fi movies and in this case, you would be trapped in a glass enclosure surrounded by thousands of flies staring with their compound eyes… Would you still eat there? Some people did but no way for me…

Blame It On The Chickens

I talked to one of the sellers there and I was told that there are some chicken farms nearby and things would get extremely bad during the rainy seasons and there was no way to get rid of the flies…

Luckily my son was asleep and therefore, he stayed in the car with my wife… If not he would have a freaking time chasing after the flies and my wife would have been having a busy time wiping his hands and feet shoes…

So, the next time when you drive on the NSE, look out for Machap rest area and stop to look at the wonder of the flies.

There was a fly in our car a day after we came back and looking at the size, it must have followed us back from Machap…

Eid Mubarak, Salam Aidil Fitri, Salam Lebaran: This Raya has been mostly about driving here and there for my family and I. On the eve of Aidil Fitri, I drove to my office and then back to my house to pick up my wife and son and then we drove to Malacca to pick up my in-laws.

On the first day of Aidil Fitri, I drove to the mosque and then to Tesco, both in Shah Alam. On the second day, I drove to KL to pick up the MPV and then drove to Central Market looking for some buttons and then drove back to Shah Alam followed by a drive to Port Dickson for a picnic and then back to Shah Alam.

On the third day, I drove to KLIA LCCT to send my father in-law off to Pekan Baru and then drove to Kuala Lipis to spend some times with my mother and after that drive, my brother in-law took over the driving duty and I designated myself to be the navigator only. So he drove from Kuala Lipis back to Shah Alam and a few other places as well.

The final drive for me was yesterday, which was only a few hours ago, where we sent back the MPV to the owner who landed at LCCT from Jakarta and then drove back to Shah Alam, which we just arrived today. Where will I be driving to later today?

Even though this blog is not really affected by the security issues on 2.6.1, I just want it to be up to date. Some of you might ask why I didn’t go for the auto update plugin. I tried it and I just do not like it.

Contact Form replaced: Previously this blog was using the Secure and Accessible PHP Contact Form v.2.0WP contact form but I found it to be too messy and then when someone left a comment telling me that the contact form was not working, I replaced it with Easy Contact. I have successfully tested it.

Holiday Mood: I am still on leave from work until end of the week so if this blog is not updated regularly, then you know why. Anyone has to work today?
